What is the Desired Outcome of this project?

Upon project completion, the fire risk will be reduced which is critically important due to the juxtaposition of stands in the prevailing southwesterly wind direction to a well-developed subdivision that runs along the length of the forest boundary. The area will support hiking trails, an improved stream management zone and wildlife habitat and will compliment other Forest Service, tribal, municipal and private land projects within the interface. The Cedar Creek Restoration Project will also provide a highly visible treatment area readily accessible to those visiting Ruidoso, NM and the Smokey Bear Ranger District Office located across the street.
